Volunteer to Serve

The Gilbert-Franklin Township Fire Department is always looking for volunteers.

We are currently in need of the following positions:

  • Volunteer Firefighter
  • Emergency Medical Technicians

The Gilbert-Franklin Township Fire Department is made up of people just like you who have full-time jobs and families but have decided that they can also make time in their schedule to help their friends and neighbors during their times of need. Our volunteers are men and women, career firefighters, mechanics, truck drivers, artists, tradesman and retired professionals.

The rewards of being a volunteer emergency services provider are plentiful. There is the sense of accomplishment that comes from controlling a fire, the joy and elation that follows the surprise birth of a child, the timid “thank you” that is received from an accident victim, and the satisfaction that goes along with teaching children about fire safety.

We have a proud history of volunteer firefighters that have provided fire and emergency medical services to the citizens of Gilbert and Franklin Township. If you are willing to share some of your time and energy, we will provide you with the training and equipment you need to safely help your friends and neighbors.

Training and Time Commitment

We pride ourselves on having exceptional training to ensure your safety, and we ask that volunteers make monthly meetings and trainings a priority. Both firefighters and EMTs get together on the first Thursday of the month for a department-wide meeting.

In addition, there is one fire training provided monthly and varies on date, based on your assigned company. Our EMTs have one medical training provided on the 3rd Thursday of the month. Specialty trainings are also offered throughout the year.

  • Department Meeting – First Thursday of the month; 1-2 hours
  • Fire Training – One training a month; 2-4 hours
  • EMS Training – Third Thursday of the month; 1-2 hours
  • Optional Training – Provided on a regular basis

Required Certifications

Required certifications will be reviewed during your interview. In general, training classes are offered continuously and can be completed during evenings and weekends throughout your recruitment period.
  • Firefighter1 must be completed within one year of recruitment.
